What’s good my people! Missionary life is so epic and I’m loving every second of it. But first things first I need a sports update from some people. How are my suns doing. I need to know if they’re even looking like a playoff team. I’m missing wearing my jersey but I’m alright wearing a white shirt and tie for now haha.
As you can see…. We had another baptism!!! Hawa, Varney, and Abraham were all baptized on Saturday. This one was a pretty special one too. Hawa has been coming to church for over a year and a half, but because of some other problems she wasn’t able to be baptized. But she continued to push through and even all her kids (except for Varney) have been baptized and come to church. She’s been waiting and waiting and continuing to progress and after some phone calls and approvals, we got the all clear! So ya it was so awesome to see her baptized and see her beaming face when she was confirmed as well! Varney is her son and I’ve been teaching him ever since I’ve been here. His awesome too and we’re hoping to have him receive the priesthood next week on Sunday. Abraham we’ve also been studying with for awhile. I think since October. But he’s awesome and like a little brother to me. Like actually he’s goofy just like Owen and Harvey so I treat him like my brother. We have some fun times together haha.
We’re also preparing to extend a few more baptismal invitations this week so pray that those go well! I’m also doing what Elder Batila did to me my third week on my mission. Except I’m doing it to Elder Esakalonga. Basically he’s in charge now. He’s calling the people, planning the day, leading the teaching, leading the area. He’s doing it all. So pray that all goes well 😳😅
This week we’re having two apostles and four general authorities coming to Liberia for a mission conference 😳 No small thing for real. We’ve all been preparing baway and I feel so ready to receive some personal revelation as well as revelation for the mission as a whole. Elder Bednar and Elder Kearon will be coming along with some of our area presidency for West Africa. Elder Bednar also spoke to us when I was in the MTC so it’ll be epic to hear from him again. He said some baller things last time. And this’ll be my first time shaking an apostles hand which will be epic!
So in preparation for this visit, I’ve been studying a lot of Elder Bednars talks. One of those talks is called “Seek Learning by Faith” from a cool devotional. There’s one quote that I found in here that I really really liked and would like to share. “The best way to obtain truth and wisdom is not to ask it from books, but to go to God in prayer and obtain divine teaching.” Mic drop. That’s it. It’s that simple. The best way to receive an answer is to pray. Haven’t I been saying that for like ever since my mission started? 🤣 So ya pray my hooligans.
A little update I guess on the whole situation. Trainings still tough but it’s also way cool. Thinking about how just a few months ago I was being trained myself is unreal. Still got a few weeks left to go so I gotta finish strong and teach my pikeen all the things he needs to know. Elder Tolman was here about one week and then got switched because of an emergency transfer that happened in the city. So the new missionary here is Elder Odhihambo from Kenya. This guy is a goober for real hahaha. I love him just for the few short days hes been here. This man can cook and loves to clean so that’s a big miracle. I’ve been trying to keep our apartment clean but boy oh boy it’s been a struggle haha. But now we’ve got two going at it so it’s gonna be looking spiffy clean. In fact, he spent the whole day today just deep cleaning the whole place. It’s insane how nice it is now.
Okay now for invitation time. I studied two talks by Elder Bednar that I would like you all to read
– “Always Retain a Remission of Your Sins”, from the 2016 general conference. This one helped me a lot cause I gave a talk on Sunday about the sacrament and it really helped me think of some awesome things. It’s a W talk for real.
– “In the Path of Their Duty” from the October 2023 general conference. Nothing much needs to be said. Just read it. It’s a banger.
Overall just continuing to grind out here! Missionary work is divine and for that I’m sure of haha. Love you all, keep sending emails and pics, or whatever yall want! For those of you who are opening your calls soon and submitting your papers or are about to leave, send me an update I wanna hear from all of you haha. Keep grinding and keep reading your scriptures my people!
Jesus loves you baway!!!
Elder Goodman
