Well it’s been epic out here in Buchanan. I finally got to my new area late Tuesday evening after a long day of travel. But we out here now and it’s awesome!
My new companion is Elder Mfumundende from DRC. He’s a freaking awesome dude. We’re both just out here to work which is awesome to see. We’re both pretty goofy so we’re gonna be doing awesome together!
Buchanan is a pretty solid area. The teaching pool we gotta try and filter through the serious and progressing people. But we’re teaching like 8ish lessons a day which feels amazing to do 😅.
The branch is struggling a bit with leadership but hey that’s why we’re here. To leave this branch stronger than we found it. That’s something my grandpa and my dad have both taught me. “Leave it better than when you found it.” So ya that’s just what we’re trying to do here. We’ve got some awesome young men and other branch missionaries that walk and teach with us almost every day! So it’s always good to have a member with us when we’re walking around and teaching.
Buchanan is kind of a mixture of city and bush. The inside of the city is cool with streets and shops. Sadly no supermarket 🫠. But we’ll manage. Liberian food is freaking good anyway. It’s weird cause it feels like Brewerville inside but then if we walk like 15ish minutes away from the main street, it’s just bush haha. Mud huts and people living pretty poor lives. But it’s so awesome cause the people are so humble here too. Our apartment is right on the beach so it’s so sweet to just wake up every day looking our on the ocean. But it’s kind of weird because it doesn’t smell like we’re next to the ocean. Like in California you can smell the salt and the beach. But here there’s just no change haha. But it’s so beautiful and it’s so sweet looking out and seeing all the people in their canoes out fishing for the day!
I swear I’m getting called “whi man” more here haha. Maybe cause we’re way out from the city. But not one pikeen walks by without calling me. It’s pretty funny haha especially when I just speak Koloqua back to them and they get all confused 😂. But some of the small small children are absolutely terrified of me. Like run away screaming thinking that the devil himself is chasing them. But all I can do is laugh!
Some of my studies have been pretty awesome this week too! I’ve been studying a little about the Easter season and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. So that’s my invitation for yall this week. In Gospel Library and on the Church website, there’s a way to study the final week leading up to Christ’s death. It’s pretty cool to go day by day and focus on why our Savior needed to go through all this. But here’s what I want you to focus on, is the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Not just His death. Yes His death is important, but we’re here to celebrate the Living Christ! So go study that proclamation too. The Living Christ is soooooo epic.
Other than that, just the same old same old amazing big mega epic missionary work! I’m enjoying ooo! Wouldn’t rather be doing anything different right now cause I know this is where I’m supposed to be.
Love you all my people! Someone send me updates on life and what’s going on with them. Praying my boys at mesa are cooking on the volleyball court 💪. And also for my suns cause I hear they’re doing fece 🥲. But also praying for my people out here in Buchanan!!! I’m still learning the area and people but we’ve got some people preparing for baptism so pray for them to continue to stay strong.
Send me updates. Keep grinding. Keep reading your BOM.
Also one more thing! Prepare for General Conference! It’s coming quick quick so find some questions that you want answered or something you want to focus on!
Anyway,
JESUS LOVES YOU BAWAY!!!
Elder Good Man
