This week was a grind for real with a lot of goofy experiences! And also sad ones as well. But I’ll be a happy fella and start out with the goofy ones.
– we accidentally splashed a taxi driver when we were passing him. I hit a few puddles apparently and splashed some nasty water on him. He flagged us down and got pretty mad at us. And another man just spawned out of nowhere too just screaming at us for driving too crazy. But my real question to them is why do you drive with your window down when it’s raining and there’s potholes everywhere? Still don’t know. But ya it’s okay no one got angry enough to throw hands haha
– we were walking down this road and I see this old papay, and kind of notice he was staring and waiting for us. And finally as we get to him he just looks at us, and yells “soldiers of Jesus!!!” He then continued to tell us that he is also “glued to the ministry.” And has been ordained by his pastor to teach children. It was an interesting conversation. At the end, he shook our hands, looked at each of us in the eyes for like 10 seconds, then proceeded to give us a big old hug. We were dying laughing about that one after 😂
– as we were ending one of our exchanges this week, we were driving back to our area. If you don’t know, if you’re driving in Liberia you use your car horn at least every 15 seconds. It’s crazy. And you need a working horn to drive safely. Anyway we’re about 10 minutes into our drive when Elder Mfumundende says to me, “my man the horn stopped working”. We tried the horn and it had just stopped. So it’s been an interesting past few days driving in Liberia cause we NEED our horn. Brother Morris told us for the time being to just have the passenger roll down his window and yell at people instead.
Okay just for a quick update now. This week we had 4 free days in our area! So that meant 4 exchanges in a row. It was crazy fun haha. And it’s always great to learn from elders on exchanges. Basically that was our whole week. Just exchanges.
Today though we were back in our area and had a baptism! Our friend Amos was baptized today and it was awesome. There were a bunch of other missionaries and their candidates there as well so we had a huge combined baptism. It was big mega epic…
So now for the sad note. But also good note I guess. On Tuesday I was in Banjor 1 on an exchange. For those of you who don’t remember it was an area next to my first area in Brewerville. Anyway we had district council that morning and I got to talk to the Brewerville elders about some of the people that I taught and had the opportunity to baptize while I was there. I then found out that one man I taught, brother George Hunder, tragically passed away just a few days before in a motorbike accident. George was one of the strongest investigators I’ve ever met. He always kept his commitments, always came to church, and always wanted to study. At first when I heard the news it was kind of a shock. But know I have so much peace of mind because I know that George was keeping his covenants and he is prepared to meet God again. I’ll include a picture of him and his daughter at his baptism at the end of the email too. Prayers all around for George’s family 🙏❤️. This gospel is so real and God’s Plan of Salvation is perfect. And it’s all because of Christ that we even have the chance to see each other again. I’m so excited for the day when I meet my friends that I met and helped on my mission. This gospel is THE truth out there!
Over all I’m just enjoying the work still! It’s definitely a grind most days but that’s what makes this work so sweet! Send me any updates or anything sweet you’ve studied recently! Much love.
Jesus loves you baway!
Elder Good Man
