Mission tour

What’s up everyone! We’re back at it again with another weekly. This week was just one of those weeks were you look back at it and just ask yourself, “did that really happen?” It was so fast, so busy, and so tiring 😂. But so rewarding. I’m just gonna give you the day by day. It might be a long one so buckle up.

Monday was an interesting but fun day for sure. We woke up expecting a normal day just having a few quick meetings and then teaching the rest of the day. We were doing our weekly accountability calls when we got a call from our mission driver Brother Morris. He started off by saying elders we have a problem. That’s when you know something is wrong haha. Basically he explained the situation. He was en route from the Southeast with 10 elders when their truck broke down. So he said elders I’m going to put them on bikes and you’re going to drive up to Ganta to pick them up. You need to take the office elders and the van and come now. We were like bruh you’re joking. We’ve got a bunch of things to do and Ganta is 4 hours away! But when duty calls, you just gotta go I guess. So we went to the office had a quick meeting, got some few things done and then went up to Ganta. We grabbed the office elders, the mission van, some crackers and energy drinks, and off we went. All the way to Ganta. Let’s just say I was driving a wee bit fast haha. But not too much. Anyway we got to Ganta about 5, just as all the elders were arriving. So we packed them into the van and drove back down. Got home about 9. It was legendary. Just a good time driving through the bush, listening to youth music, talking with the elders, and just realising how blessed I am to be here in Liberia. Only bad part was when I ran over a screw and we had to get it plugged on the side of the road haha. Liberian workers are strange baway.

Tuesday we ended up having District Council and had to get all the Southeast elders back to their areas. So some more transfers, yippee! About halfway through getting them to our area though, our brakes completely gave up. You know, it’s a little scary driving in Liberia with no brakes. But somehow we managed. We were able to drive back slowly to Monrovia to get our truck to the shop, switched trucks with the senior couples, and continued our routes. And again we got home a wee bit late but that’s the work I guess haha.

Now Wednesday was cool. It was the first day of our mission tour with Elder Kyungu! He’s our area president and a General Authority Seventy. He’s a really cool and humble man from DRC and it was awesome to meet him and learn from him. We had an MLC and ZC with him. I’ll throw down some notes at the end. Right after the ZC, we zoomed up to my favorite place in LIB… Totota! We got to spend the night up there with some elders. Shout out to them for being good hosts.

Thursday morning we woke up dark and early to get to Monrovia in time for the conference. I was slumped the whole drive haha. But we had another amazing MLC and ZC with the other zones of our mission. After the conference we took some of the ZLs back into Monrovia to stay the night. And shout out to senior couples for taking us out to dinner! Remember that Chinese restaurant place I talked about? Well it’s so good and legit that we went back again… With 10 other people. It was so good haha.

Friday morning we had another MLC meeting to cap off our mission tour with Elder Kyungu. Took the elders back to their areas, and then finally got to spend some few hours in our area for the first time the whole week! Taught some good and powerful lessons with some of my favorite people.

Alright time for some thoughts and notes I got from this week:

– “Who am I becoming?” This was a big theme from Elder Kyungu. He talked a lot about becoming a successful missionary, a successful leader, a successful disciple of Christ. It made me ponder a lot about who I am becoming and what changes I’ve had on my mission. It was sweet.

– I need to be more Christ like. Pretty straight forward. But I’ve got a lot of work to do 😂.

– Remember, you have been called by the Lord and by revelation about your service. Elder Kyungu talked a lot about this. It doesn’t matter what you serve as, where you serve. But it’s all about HOW you serve. Who cares if your junior companion your whole mission? Serve the way you need to. Super humbling for us all.

– Sister Thomas shared a very powerful scripture from Alma 25:15. It literally describes Liberia. This is a war torn, corrupted, dark country. But this gospel and church is bringing light to it. And we are instruments in His hands. Talk about some awesome messages.

Anyway think that’s it for this week. Hold up let me give you an idea about how my week looked.

Stats for the week

– Times we filled up the truck: 7

– Near misses with motorbikes: 527

– Miles driven: 750+ miles

– Spiritual overload moments: at least 20

– Times getting called Chinee man: 29

– Times a police officer asked for money at a checkpoint: every time

– The overall rating of my awesome week: 9.7/10.

So ya there it is folks. Enjoy yalls holiday season wherever you’re at. Cold or hot. Merry or dreary. Just enjoy it cause this is the Saviors birth we’re talking about. Love ya. Keep grinding. Peace yall.

Jesus loves you baway 🫡
